Philip can offer workshops for your organisation on the following themes:

Understanding Stress (download flyer).

This one-day workshop aims to help the participants understand stressful situations in their working lives, working through the medium of music as well as verbal discussion.  The day will start with more structured group exercises, giving a simple feeling of relaxation through participation in drum and rhythm exercises.  The group will then improvise musical pieces together, exploring themes of tension and relaxation in music, and group dynamics such as issues of control, which are mirrored in the workplace.  Alongside the music-based exercises, group discussion will be facilitated, to enable the participants to gain insight into their work style, the reasons we take on stressful jobs, and strategies to manage stress.

Team-Building Through Music

Philip can provide a team-building workshop, where group members have a chance to explore their interpersonal roles in a different context from the everyday conflicts and situations at work.  The day will start with structured exercises, giving a sense of the group playing together; there will then be more opportunity to experiment with roles, swapping ‘leading’ and ‘following’ in different musical pieces.  This workshop could be given as a whole ‘away day’, or as part.  Where a team is experiencing difficulties in its relationships, a series of workshops could be provided to give a safe space to explore the tensions.

Managing Change Through Music

This workshop is aimed more at teams or groups in an organisation where significant change is being planned.  Musical role-plays will focus on individuals’ roles at the current time, and how they see their roles changing. there will also be a focus on dealing with uncertainty.

Counselling Schemes

Individual music therapy could be offered as an alternative to or in addition to a company’s staff counselling scheme.  This would provide support for a member of staff undergoing stress, for a series of sessions.  Sessions would be likely to include both words and music; it would be suitable for people who felt they needed an alternative way of expressing their feelings, as well as words.

Just as certain selections of music will nourish your physical body and your emotional layer, so other musical works will bring greater health to your mind.
